Stockmen’s Training 5 - 8 July 2011
Introduction
LiveCorp is offering a training program for stockmen with responsibilities for the care of livestock exported by sea. The program aims to produce provisionally accredited stockmen to service the live export industry in accordance with the Australian Standards for Export of Livestock.
The course covers all aspects of shipboard care and management of livestock with an
emphasis on cattle, sheep and goats. Topics include:

Adapting to life and work on board

Animal handling, restraint and treatment

Important shipboard diseases and how to detect, diagnose, treat and prevent them.

Feed, water and deck management

Euthanasia and carcass disposal

How to stay safe

Crisis management

Course methodology
The course combines theory sessions in the class room with practical sessions at export facilities on animal handling, restraint and treatment.
Course structure and duration
This is an intensive course for up to 25 stockmen over 4 days from Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th July, 2011.
Day 1 starts at 08.50 sharp and finishes at 17.00.
Days 2 and 3 start at 08.30 and finish at 17.00.
Day 4 starts at 08.30 and finishes at 15.00.
Voluntary evening sessions will be held from 19.00 to 21.00 on Days 1-3. The trainers will be present to show slides and DVDs of on board activities and export destinations and answer any questions.

Course costs
Cost is $1000 which covers tuition, training manuals, smokos, lunches, certificates and bus trip to the export facilities. Note that accommodation and other travel and meals are not covered.
Qualification pathways
Participants who satisfy the assessment requirements of the course (based on level of participation, satisfactory completion of practical tasks and passing a written test) will be awarded a certificate of provisional stockman accreditation. Full accreditation is awarded after completion of two voyages where competency is assessed.

Applicants must be recommended by a licensed livestock exporter.
