The livestock carriers that transport our cattle operate under Marine Orders Part 43. The marine orders stipulate ventilation requirements, the floor space per animal, and cover the provision and quality of feed and water while they are on the voyage to their destination. Animals are drafted into pens according to sex, weight, age and size. The smallest of these ships take 800 head of cattle with the largest capable of carrying more than 26,000 cattle.
Australian authorities regularly inspect each vessel, and the cattle are loaded according to strict Australian guidelines. The voyage to most SE destinations is from 4-6 days. These boats are full-time dedicated livestock carriers with a professional livestock crew who take care of the cattle on their short voyage. |
